American Wetware builds open, AI-native software for scientific and personal notes. Limestone is our notebook.
American Wetware makes software for the messy, long-lived work of thinking and record-keeping — lab notebooks, research files, and the notes that tie them together. We start from a simple conviction: the knowledge you create should belong to you, in formats that will still open long after any particular app, model, or company is gone.
Limestone is our first product. It's a local-first, AI-native notebook where your notes stay ordinary files on your own device — portable, private, and readable by both humans and machines. AI is a reviewed collaborator that can propose changes, never an owner that takes control of your record.
Limestone shares American Wetware's core identity — the same green (#2FBF39) and paper (#FBFFF6), the same commitment to transparency and portability — while keeping its own recognition anchors: the bracketed [[limestone]] mark and the Space Mono wordmark. It's a distinct product with a shared foundation.
Open formats, open source. The things you make in Limestone don't depend on us to stay readable.
Local-first, no telemetry by default. Your files stay on your terms, and we never read them.
Human- and machine-readable notes that survive changing tools, models, and vendors — including us.
Questions, early access, or partnership ideas — we'd like to hear from you.
